25 years with Generali UK!
Celebrating 25 years with Generali UK Employee Benefits, we speak with Matt Squirrell, Client Services Manager, to ask where his career started, what his journey at Generali has involved, what he enjoys most about the job and what tips he’d give to newcomers.
Next year you would have worked for Generali UK for 25 years! Where did your career path start? And when and how did it bring you here?
My Career started as a Trainee Administrator at Canada Life in Potters Bar (Hertfordshire, UK), straight after finishing college. After 1½ years at Canada Life, working in London was tempting for a 21-year-old, therefore I accepted a position at Generali within the Client Services team as a Senior Account Executive, after being offered roles in both the Client Services and Medical Underwriting teams.
What kind of roles have you held within Generali UK? Which was your favourite and why?
Since joining Generali, I have had several roles, including Senior Account Executive, Deputy Supervisor, Supervisor, Assistant Manager & Manager. My favourite role is my current role as, due to my length of service, I have been granted authority which allows me to complete my tasks quickly and efficiently without many referrals. What also makes this role my favourite, is managing four brilliant colleagues, with Matt Waeland working on Credit Control, Kelly Powell working on work flow distribution & audit, Heather Davy working on Technical Documentation Agreement & assisting in Credit Control/Claims, and Charlotte Bassett solely working on Claims.
How has Generali UK managed to hold on to you for 25 years?! What do you love most about your job?
Obviously, they appreciate quality when they see it LOL. The people 😊
What has changed most about the organisation in that time?
Lots of things but, overall, I believe that the company is far more employee focussed, both in relation to welfare & inclusion.
What are the top three tips you would give to anyone joining the organisation now?
In my experience everyone wants to be friends, therefore do not hold back with your colleagues, be yourself, work hard & have a laugh!
